Frequently Asked Questions
A Registered Investment Adviser (RIA) is a person or firm that is engaged in the business of providing advice to others and issues reports or analyses regarding securities for compensation. The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) requires that RIAs uphold a fiduciary duty to its advisory clients, meaning the RIA and the individuals who offer investment management and advisory services on its behalf must act in the best interests of each client while providing these advisory services. The confidence and trust placed in the RIA and the individuals serving clients are something we value and endeavor to protect. As the first word of their title indicates, RIAs are required to register either with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) or state securities administrators.
Jon Hoyme and Matt Miller were both Thrivent Financial employees for several years and over time, their appreciation for planning and wealth management led them a different direction. Formally known as Gulf Coast Financial Consultants (GCFC), their growth in planning and wealth management provided the opportunity to be a part of the core group of 12 throughout the United States that were originally invited to join the creation of the Thrivent Advisor Network (TAN). This started in October of 2016 and in 2019 TAN was launched with three teams transitioning into the RIA platform. GCFC transitioned in 2020 and with the change, launched Awaken Wealth Partners.
TAN, a registered investment adviser (RIA), is one of many business units under the Thrivent umbrella. Awaken Wealth Partners is one of several independent advisory businesses that is a part of TAN and TAN provides compliance and technology services for a fee to Awaken Wealth Partners. TAN and Awaken Wealth Partners however are not affiliated companies and no one on the Awaken Wealth Partners team is an employee of Thrivent Financial.
